Dr. Tseng Biography


Li-Han Eliza Tseng is a professional cellist and music educator. Currently, Dr. Tseng serves as the principal cellist at Orchestra Nova LA (was LA Doctors Symphony) and perform with many ensembles.

Dr. Tseng Music Academy was founded in 2021 in both LA and Orange County. With the vision to cultivate a nurturing music learning cycle that empowers every student to unlock their full potential.

Education:
Dr. Tseng's cello journey began at the age of twelve. After two years of training, she took second place in the high-school cello division of the Eisenbach Music Competition in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Her artistic training began with piano at the age of seven, and then she studied violin, dance, vocal, conducting, and arts administration.

Dr. Tseng earned a DMA degree in Cello Performance on the Graduate Incentive Scholarship at the University of Cincinnati–College-Conservatory of Music. Her mentors include Yehuda Hanani (well-known for his critically acclaimed recording of J.S. Bach: Six Suites, TownHall Records) and Lee Fiser (cellist of the LaSalle Quartet, 1975—87). She was awarded a College of Music scholarship during her master's study at the North Texas of Music, under the instruction of Nikola Ruzevic (the director of the Upbeat International Music Festival, Japan).

As an avid performer, Dr. Tseng has participated in numerous orchestral concerts, chamber concerts, and solo concerts, which she coached by Alan Rafferty, Ilya Finkelshteyn, Eugene Osadchy, and more.

Music of all styles and genres appeals to Dr. Tseng, especially chamber music. She was coached by Ariel Quartet, Prof. Eugene Osadchy,  Prof. Peter Zazofsky, Prof. Danwen Jiang, Prof Adam Neiman, and more. She has participated in numerous performances and premiered:


Research Document:
Dr. Tseng published her doctoral research document, Sergey Prokofiev’s Solo Cello Repertory: The ComposiGonal History and Performance Guild, under the guidance of Yehuda Hanani, Ilya Finkelshteyn, Jeongwon Joe, and James Bunte. She presented one chapter, Prokofiev’s Adagio from Cinderella, at the College Music Society National Conference (Oct. 2019. Louisville, KY).

She enjoys collaborating with others, teaching, and performing while exploring musical art possibilities. In addition to cello/ music life, she likes outdoor activities, exploring national parks, watching TV shows/movies, and trying food in LA.
